Play Therapy

“Play is the work of childhood.” - Jean Piaget

The Association for Play Therapy defines play therapy as “the systematic use of a theoretical model to establish an interpersonal process wherein trained Play Therapists use the therapeutic powers of play to help clients prevent or resolve psychosocial difficulties and achieve optimal growth and development."

In short, play is the language of childhood and toys are their words. It is my role as the Play Therapist to “speak the language” of children in order to support them in developing a positive sense of self, engage in self-determined decision making, become more trusting of themselves, and improve their abilities to cope with life’s challenges.
